What is PSXDEV ?

Back in 1997 I (Daniel Balster) found various informations about PSX internals in the internet and started to write my very own development environment.

PSXDEV is a cross target development environment for the Sony PlayStation video game console. PSX + Development = PSXDEV! It features the following highlights:
  • Many programming languages
    GNU C/C++/Java/Chill/Fortran/assembler... !
  • Full remote control of the PSX
You can start, stop, reset, ... the PSX
  • Linux Kernel Device Driver for the PSX
Linux applications can communicate with the PSX through a simple programming interface. Very special developer applications are now possible!
  • Various developer tools
Everything is included for the whole process of developing an application for a remote target.
  • Graphic converters
You can convert from and to TIM and BS with shell converters and/or GIMP plug-ins
  • Audio converters
Utilties for recording, replaying and converting PCM to ADPCM (and vice versa) are included.
  • CD-ROM mastering
A special version of mkisofs is included, which allows you to master PSX compatible ISO images, which can be written to a CD-recordable. There is also a graphical frontend for the GNOME desktop included.
  • PSX remote debugger for GNOME
A remote disassembler which allows you to upload and inspect your debugging binary on the PSX. It supports breakpoints, single stepping, register inspecting, GTE coprocessor, hyper branches, and more!
  • PSX artist debugger
A very special realtime datatype modifier written for artists. You can change variables in realtime using a remote connection to you application, and this works without even modifying you application! Full transparent access to you program makes this possible.
  • Various other utilities
Memory card backup/restore, various ways to take screenshots, flash ROM utilties, cheat code utilities, and so on...

I have to thank these people for various ideas, contributions and support:
